| Anžej Dežan, still a secondary school student, was born in 1987 in Celje. He began his musical career very early, when he was ten years old, by winning the TV show ‘Karaoke’.
Nevertheless, his first major success was in a television competition that unearths new musical talents in 2005. He competed in the Grand Final with Omar Naber, who narrowly won and became the Slovenian representative at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005.
Anžej was the runner-up, a thankless position in such a competition, but this didn't shake his eagerness to work in the musical field. His growing potential was recognised by the successful composers and lyricists Urša and Matjaž Vlašič and Boštjan Grabnar, who became Anžej's creative team.
Together with them, Anžej published his first single ‘C'est la vie’ which was one of the top singles of several Slovenian radio playlists. In February 2005, Anžej was a backing vocalist for Nuša Derenda at EMA, the Slovenian Eurovision selection competition, while in May of the same year he entered the festival ‘Melodije morja in sonca’ and cut his second single ‘Vroče’. The song received a great reception at the festival and the jury awarded him first place.
Anžej performed in January 2006 at EMA 2006 and won with the song ‘Mr. Nobody’. |
