| Popular Kate Ryan for Belgium
Belgium is sending one of its best known international stars to the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens. Kate Ryan, known all over Europe for her hits "Désenchantée" and "Libertine", has recently won the Belgian national Eurovision Final and will now represent her country with the catchy pop song "Je t'adore".
Kate was one of the 28 artists participating in "Eurosong 2006", the national Eurovision Finals of Flanders' public broadcaster VRT. After four preselection heats, two Semi Finals and a big Final, it became clear that the professional juries and the televoting audience opted for Kate Ryan to fly the colours for Belgium in Greece this year.
25-year old Kate is probably the best known artist Belgium has ever sent to the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2002, she became famous with her version of the French song "Désenchantée" which went to the top of the charts in many countries, amongst them Germany (where she got a golden record), Switzerland, The Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, France and Portugal. Two other international hits followed: "Libertine" and "Scream for more/mon coeur resiste encore". Kates album "Stronger" was distributed on a worldwide scale. Kate sold more than 1 million copies worldwide.
At the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, Kate will perform "Je t'adore", a great pop song written in English but with a French title. Right after its election as Belgium's entry for the Contest, it went to the top of the national music and airplay charts.
Kate Ryan, her management, her record company and broadcaster VRT are currently working on their preparations for Eurovision in Athens in May. |
