| Polina’s life is a storm of emotions, events and impressions. This charming ambassador for Belarus, a student and winner of numerous international competitions including the Grand Prix of the ‘Slavonic Bazaar 2005’, wins the hearts of her listeners extremely quickly. The singer never ceases to amaze with her impressive performances on stage and, with her extraordinary style, she is a fashion leader.
As this year’s Belarusian participant, Polina Smolova has become known for her professionalism, talent and individuality.
INTRO Polina Smolova is one of the most well-known and successful performers on the Belarusian music scene. Last year brought her plenty of fame: she won the Grand Prix at the ‘Slavonic Bazaar 2005’ and an award at the Contest for Young Performers; she was given the honorary title ‘Inhabitant of the city of Minsk’; and, at the Belarusian music awards ‘Teleportation’, she was voted ‘Person of the Year’.
The next step in her career was victory at the Belarusian selection concert for the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. Polina will represent Belarus with the song ‘MUM’, specially written for the European competition (with lyrics by Andrey Kostiugov and music by Sergey Sukhomlin).
On 11 March in Kyiv, Polina started a promo tour that will take in 15 countries. Apart from Ukraine, Polina will visit Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Spain, Germany and Malta.
REFERENCE POINT Polina first came to prominence at the qualifying round of the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest. With her ‘Song of Love’, she became a fixture in Belarusian show business but the following year was even more crucial. In spring 2005 her debut album ‘Smile’ was released nationwide. Tracks from the album, such as ‘Rain’, ‘Song of Love’ and ‘Flower’ were near the top of the charts for a long time and the album sold out very quickly. In summer, Polina took part in a competition at the ‘Slavonic Bazaar 2005’ international festival of arts and won the Grand Prix.
