| 29-year-old Tomas Thordarson is representing Denmark at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Together with backing vocalists, Christina Boelskifte, Christina Birksø, Arvid Nielsen and Mads Enggaard Jørgensen, he was the clear winner of the Danish National Song Contest with a catchy Latino-inspired song, “Shame on You”.
His victory at the Danish Eurovision prelims was, in fact, Tomas´ second on national television. Two years ago, he won the opening round in the first series of Danish TV talent show, “Star for a Night”.
Shortly after his performance in “Star for a Night”, Tomas realised how important music was to him and that the most important thing for him was to be able to make his living from what made him really happy. So, he decided to give up his secure job and started to concentrate entirely on music.
That decision resulted in a hugely successful debut album produced with the help of the hugely experienced song writer, Ivar Lind Greiner.
Greiner -- who also wrote Tomas´ Eurovision entry -- has a long track record of composing Eurovision songs. Indeed, he has composed so many, he’s now considering creating a course in how to write the perfect Eurovision song!
This year Greiner composed no less than three songs for the Danish competition, despite the fact the rules only allow one song per composer. Therefore, Ivar let his 14-year-old son decide. After thorough consideration his son pointed at “Shame on You”. Danish television viewers agreed with Ivar´s son. Now, only time will tell whether Europe agrees with him as well. |
